Visual Communication - Bachelors
Lucid Dreams is a 3D animated story about the dreams of a depressed man. Throughout the story, the audience will be in first person view of different surreal scenarios, immersing themselves into the depressed world.
In the modern age, especially on the Internet, people under-estimate the impact of mental health issues and how their acts can break one fragile mind. People often misunderstand or even laugh at others for being ‘soft’ or ‘weak’, labelling depression and mental health patients. Some simply do not care and think it is not too big of a deal until it’s too late.
In this project I wrote a story about a depressed man. By making use of the 3D software Blender 3D, I am able to create and animate surreal and abstract scenes and visually presenting the patient’s thoughts and emotions. The desperations of mental health patients are often neglected as they are not easy to spot. It isn’t something tangible and people may find it difficult to understand them. I hope the 3D animation provides an immersive experience, allowing audience to understand the struggle mental health patients are going through.
The project aims to communicate the idea of caring for your friends and families with related mental health issues, as well as preventing suicides and self-harm acts before it is too late.
Avery is a multidisciplinary designer that specialise in graphic design, 3D design, web design, photography and cinematography. He is passionate about telling stories through photos and videos to communicate strong ideas and emotions.
