Home Is…

What is home to you? Is it the place where you live, limited to the four walls of your house? Or perhaps it is something more. "Home Is…" is a short book that explores the idea of home as a fundamental part of the human experience. Storytelling, illustration, animation and AR technology are used in conjunction to prompt a more visceral, emotional response and inspire the audience to reflect on their own idea of home.

Each story was submitted anonymously by a member of the public when prompted with the question: “what does home mean to you?”. The full experience of the book is intended to be felt by viewing it through the Adobe Aero app where AR is used to bring three-dimensionality to the illustrations and trigger animations. By panning their camera around, they can see the different layers of the illustration which gives the illusion of 3D space. The intent is for the viewer to feel as though they are stepping into another’s home, or their idea of it, to prompt empathy and self-reflection.

The essence of visual storytelling is this combination of emotional reaction and narrative information

A simple frame-by-frame animation style brings each story to life and sparks joy for the viewer.

Illustrators are now more than creators of images designed to sell a product… they are now the purveyors of much deeper and more diverse experiences
