ADDA APP CONCEPT

adda is an application whereby users can access educational information about China's regional cuisines. The app also functions as a restaurant search and save, as well as a community discussion platform. A go-to resource for everything related to Chinese cuisine, and understanding the intricate levels of taste, sensation and culinary skills presented in Chinese food.

Design concept

Understanding authenticity

The core purpose for creating the adda concept app was to provide a fun and interactive way to educate and inform users on the types of Chinese food, and to have the ability to share stories with the food and culture in a community of like-minded or curious people.

Chinese food is too often homogenised as a cuisine, especially in western culture where we only experience a glimpse of the vast flavours offered in Chinese regional cooking. Understanding the geographical influences, preparation techniques and history around the regional cuisines, helps to broaden our perspectives about authentic Chinese food. However, we must also acknowledge that Chinese food tastes different in each and every Chinese-Australian household. Authenticity is varied in meaning and diaspora cooking is common among Chinese-Australians who are replicating their version of authenticity with local ingredients.

The final Figma prototype aims to take the user on a journey through the four cuisines in China. Starting in Sichuan, the user is guided through a series of infographics showcasing the regions flavour pallet, historical and geographical influences, popular dishes within the cuisine and ends with local recommendations to delight in the cuisine in Brisbane. Once the user journey is complete, the user can navigate to the saved places and community forum pages. Due to the conceptual nature of this project, the user journey is structured, however, in a real-life application, the user would be able to access the different cuisines more freely.
